Definitions of Faith
Is FAITH illusive? Can it be described or defined?

Definitions of Faith in a Letter from Elaine

Dear Something Sisters, my Best Friends,

You will never maintain a terrific friendship without FAITH.

Relationships of all kinds thrive on faith and trust. Many times when a friendship relationship breaks down, it is because the bond of faith and trust in the other person has been broken.

Many times in my life, I have been hurt by best friends who "let me down". They lied or they fibbed, whatever you want to call it. They did what they said they would not do!

Or, they did not do what they said they would do!

And I am guilty, too. As I point the finger of conviction at others, the other three fingers are pointing straight back to me.

And speaking of faith, I want to inspire you today with a better way of understanding what faith is. I would like to define faith for you.

But let me give you a friendly warning, IT IS NOT EASY TO DEFINE FAITH.
It's easier to describe it and give examples of it than it is to define it. So, bear with me, have faith in my sincere desire to share with you what I have learned from others.

Love and Hugs,
Elaine

Here is my definition of FAITH:

Faith is resting in the presence of God, even when circumstances either good or bad, seem overwhelming. Faith is knowing and trusting that God, the Father, Son and Holy Spirit is more than we will ever need.

Elaine Kennelly

Here are others, more learned than I, who have shared
their definitions of faith.

Now faith is being sure of what we hope for and certain of what we do not see.

Hebrews 11:1 (God)

Faith is not belief without proof, but TRUST without reservation.

D. Elton Trueblood, Author

Faith is A learned discipline.

Dr. David Jeremiah, Author and Pastor

Faith is the deliberate confidence in the character of God
whose ways you may not
understand.

Oswald Chambers, My Utmost For His Highest

Faith means trusting in advance what will make sense in reverse.

Philip Yancy, Author

FAITH:
Seeing the invisible.
Knowing the unknowable.
Believing the unbelievable,
So that you can achieve the impossible.

Stuart Briscoe, Author, Pastor, Teacher

The flowers in our garden take faith to grow. It is faith in God's goodness which provides the seed, the soil, the sunshine and the warm Spring rains.

Yes, God is Good!

Christian Faith, that is, acceptance of the promises and the work of Jesus Christ.

Millard J. Erickson, Author

Faith is a place that can grow in the shade, a grace that can find
the way to Heaven in a dark night.

William Gurnall

More definitions of faith from the Bible

By faith we understand that the universe was formed at God's command so that what is seen was not made out of what was visible.

Hebrews 11:2 (God)

By faith Noah, when warned about things not yet seen, in holy fear built an ark to save his family. By his faith, he condemned the world and became heir of the righteousness that comes by faith.

Hebrews 11: 7 (God)

Without faith it is impossible to please God.

Hebrews 11:6 (God)
