And Other Poems About Friendship

A Recipe for Friendship

This recipe for friendship has lots of different parts.
But in order for success, it has to start within your heart.
Start with loving KINDNESS, add HAPPINESS and MIRTH.
After time, you will see a LOVELY friendship giving birth.

The next step you take is a very important one.
When friends are together, add LAUGHTER and some FUN.
Sometimes you TALK, and sometimes you must LISTEN;
Before you know, a spark of friendship begins to glisten.

Next you add COMPASSION and unbroken TRUST.
Spending TIME together is also a need and a must.
You need a generous portion of EFFORT and CARE,
Be sure to stir in gently DEVOTION to SHARE.

Add a whole lot of SILLY and an wee bit of SADNESS,
A half a cup of SERIOUS and a gallon of GLADDNESS.
Now add in some SHOPPING; LUNCH would be great.
You've created a friendship, now go and CELEBRATE!

Here is a Poem About Friends that has a serious side to it. It's all about "How-To Make A Friend".

If friendship is what you want more of, then read this poem on friendship AND how to put it into practice!

It's Up to You

One day, you may meet someone
Who does not sound like you,
But there is something striking
That you hear in this debut.

You hear this person's accent
'Tho different from your own,
You find yourself drawn to listen;
You like the rhythm and the tone.

One day, you may see someone
Who does not look like you.
But there is something lovely
That you see in this debut.

You see this person's happy face
'Tho different from your own;
You find yourself drawn to her smile
You like the smell of her cologne.

Now the spark of friendship starts
You're drawn to say, "How are you?"
You introduce yourself and chat
When it's time, you "bid your fond adieu."

If you'd be honest, you would say
This happens all the time.
But where we take this first debut
Is the subject of this rhyme.

Do you take advantage of this?
Do you want friendships to begin?
Then you must seize the moment
And you must let the person in!

It starts with YOU, not someone else.
You must open up yourself;
To reach out to a new-found friend
Don't sit upon the shelf!

Take Charge! Don't waste a minute!
You may find in this debut,
You met the Best Friend ever
God's special blessing--just for you.

It's up to YOU to make a friend
Take advantage of every minute.
Could be a "diamond in the rough"
But polished, she's your favorite.

One more serious Poem on Friendship. This poem reflects what it is like after you and your friend have had a friendship for many years. That is really one of the components of being a Something Sister -- you usually have been friends for a long, long time.

Plus this poem relates well to friendships that stay close even though you both live "across the miles".

What is it about a Friend?

What is it about a Something Sister
You've known a long, long time?
Is it familiarity, or is it comfort, or is it---
Being together is our favorite pastime!

It's the peace-of-mind that dwells
Between the two of us.
The peace of knowing--
Months can pass,
Time will elapse,
But the joy is every growing!

What is it about a Something Sister
Whose friendship has been so fun?
Is it trips, or lost luggage, or is it---
You love the crazy things we've done?

It's the peace-of-mind that dwells
Between the two of us.
The peace of knowing--
Months can pass,
Time will elapse,
But the fun is ever growing!

What is it about a Something Sister
That makes your heart feel blessed?
Is it the Beach we both love, or is it---
Time spent together is always best?

It's the peace-of-mind that dwells
Between the two of us.
The peace of knowing--
Months can pass,
Time will elapse
But the friendship is ever growing!

What is it about a Something Sister
That makes you want to laugh?
Is it all the bling we buy, or could it be,
We love being on the same life-path!

It's the peace-of-mind that dwells
Between the two of us.
The peace of knowing--
Months can pass,
Time will elapse
But the love is ever growing!
